If you are one of the iOS faithful you’ll know that currently Apple’s voice assistant Siri is for the iPhone 4S only albeit hackers attempting to port Siri to other iOS devices, but getting Siri on other devices such as the iPhone 4 and Apple iPad 2 might not be left to the hacking community as word is Apple is looking at the same.
According to an article over on Ubergizmo the guys over at Jailbreak Nation have gained word from a “source close to Apple,” that Apple is testing the voice assistant on other devices, namely the iPhone 4, but Ubergizmo also suggest possibly the Apple iPad 2, which seems plausible as the quote is “other devices.”
The word is Apple has given access to a special software build to their employees that enable Siri on older iOS devices and if the testing proves fruitful that we could eventually see Siri some to pre-iPhone 4S devices.
IOS hackers are already hard at work attempting to port Siri to other devices but if Apple can pull it off then those hackers could well be just wasting their time, as an official port from Apple should be far better than any hack right?
However, as Siri is one of the very few features that actually distinguish the iPhone 4S from previous iPhone handsets, one would have thought that Apple would have wanted the voice assistant confined to the 4S but this doesn’t appear to be the case if the rumour is true.
According to the Jailbreak Nation article, the unnamed source says Apple has been restoring employees to stock software and doesn’t want it used in public, which the guys say could mean the iOS faithful just might see a release soon.
So do you think Apple delivering Siri to the iPhone 4 and possibly the Apple iPad 2 is a good idea or do you feel that allowing Siri on older iOS devices will detract from purchasing the iPhone 4S?
