Verizon Motorola Xoom tablets to become Droid Xyboards

Phones Review Quickie: It appears that the Big Red may not be too happy with their Motorola Xoom 2 and Motorola Xoom Media Edition slates sitting outside the famous Droid branding and as such Verizon just might be changing the name of the Android slates to fall into that Droid category, changing them to the Verizon Droid Xyboard 10.1 and Verizon Droid Xyboard 8.2.

According to the guys over at Pocket Now they have seen evidence that this Xoom tablet name change may happen with Verizon as the carrier last month applied for the trademark on the Xyboard handle.

Word is that only the UK and Ireland release of the Android 3.2 Honeycomb packing Motorola Xoom 2 and Media Edition have thus far been confirmed, but the guys do say it shouldn’t surprise anyone that the Big red will also release both slates in the US especially as Motorola partnered Verizon with the original Motorola Xoom.

It isn’t clear whether both Android slate will actually launch on Verizon as the Droid Xyboard 10.1 and Droid Xyboard 8.2, but it does looks as though this may be the case, although the guys do suggest that they could possibly arrive packing 4G LTE connectivity along with a taste of Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

So what do our readers think about this possible name change, do you prefer the Motorola Xoom handle or the new Xyboard name, personally I quite like the Xoom name, feel free to voice your opinions to our comments are below.
