As of yesterday the latest iOS smartphone was released in India, in six cities, and will be made available elsewhere in the country over the next few days, however the launch of the iPhone 4S didn’t attract huge interest as apparently at the Aircel launch in Chennai just 20 customers turned up to get the newest iPhone available.
According to the guys over at The Next Web by way of IBNLive, the reason for the poor turnout for the arrival of the iPhone 4S in Chennai was heavy rain, and in the countries capital New Delhi there wasn’t any rain but unfortunately turnout still wasn’t great.
In fact apparently the iPhone 4S in Bengaluru, Chennai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai, wasn’t received with much enthusiasm at all, the reason for which has been put down to the high upfront cost the iPhone 4S along with expensive tariff plans.
The news of a poor reception to the iPhone 4S has apparently overjoyed the unofficial grey market sellers and apparently those that have waited for the official iPhone 4S to come to India are now possibly running to the grey market or looking aboard to get the iOS smartphone at a cheaper price.
Of course if you purchase an unofficial iPhone 4S the warranty is void, but I figure the attraction of paying up to $200 less for the device people are going to take that risk. But it does go to show that if you ask too much for a device then people are going to look elsewhere.
