11/30 7AM — Received update first thing this morning upon powerup. 2.3.6. So far so good.
I’m getting the random reboot :-[ yay
12:47 EST and still no update or any news abhout anyone getting update.
12:10pm CST….no update. The Verizon Wireless Website still says coming soon.
NOTHING
Just spoke on the phone with tier 3 tech support and 2 floor managers from Verizon. Not a single one mentioned any update release nor that they believed it would come anytime soon. “It may be tomorrow or 6 months from now sir. Samsung has to release the update and we are waiting on them”
That was echoed over and over again with each person I spoke to. Scripted? Possibly. But it none the less offers me no hope of seeing an update come to this phone any time soon.
I can only wish that they were just ill informed employees and that this update is still taking place today.
3:30 pm est and nothing
I have a replacement phone sitting on my desk to address the “muted mic” syndrome that affects the Samsung Charge. I held off actually changing out the device hoping that Gingerbread would fix the problem and I would not have to spend the time setting up the new phone. Verizon called me to follow up on the horrific issues I have had with the phone. When I asked about the update due out today he seemed genuinely clueless. Anyone else have issues with the mic going dead during calls? I love the functionality of the device but I am ready to call it quits. Is there an iphone lurking in my future?
Muted Mike? By that if you mean that sometimes I can’t hear the caller on the other end and vise versa. Yes. I also have squeeks and a lot of static and echos. I have to replace my charge for the second time. It’s odd that I love this phone for everything except making calls.
Same problem and if this update does not fix it I am done with this POS.
4:57pm est and still no update. Restarted phone to hopefully prompt update notice but nothing. Not cool VZW not cool. I didn’t want to have to root for gingerbread but if this keeps up I might
I chatted with Samsung Support and they said that it will be released today sometime, however they are not sure of the time.
I Hope you are 100% correct…and not just posting that to troll ( no offense)
Does anybody else find it weird that you can turn off the data and yet still see that, “your device is currently up to date”? How the hell does it know?! I honestly think it doesnt even check…On my Droid X if theres no internet, it says it cannot check for updates at the time…With the Charge, It doesnt even have any sort of loading( just immedietly says its up to date) BULLSH**!!!!

LOOKS LIKE I GOT AN ANSWER!!Please hold for a Verizon Wireless
sales representative to assist you with your order. Thank you for your
patience.
You are now chatting with
‘Charles’
Charles: Hello. Thank you
for visiting our chat service. Â May I help you with your order today?
You: Hello Charles, I have a
question that I am sure Verizon has been getting a lot today, Samsung says
Verizon is holding out on the droid charge getting the gingerbread update. I
would like to get the charge but I want to make sure that it is up to date with
gingerbread before I buy it. I am reading on forums that people are turning off
there data on the phone and it is still saying that the system is up to date. My
ultimate questions would be: Is the update for gingerbread out there and verizon
just can’t seem to get it to their customers? and when will it be available?
Charles: Would you mind
holding for a moment while I check that information?
You: yes that is fine
Charles: Thank you
Charles: From the
information I have accessed the Gingerbread update became available today, so
within the next couple of days Verizon customers should receive the update.
You: ahh thank you so much!!
When that update is released then I will buy the charge. Thanks again for your
help
Charles: The update was
released today 11/29
You: thank you. so it is
just a matter of a couple of days before the customers actually get the
update?
Charles: That is correct
and they will receive a message or if they cut their phone off and turn it back
on the phone will automatically update.
You: any idea why the phone
is still saying that the system is up to date even though the data is turned off
and there is no access to the internet?
Charles: That may be
because the release has not hit that particular system but I have seen with my
own eyes that the update is out now
You: nice. Thanks
again!
well restarting it didnt update it
Yay! I’m so glad! I can’t wait to see new widgets and color scheme. These throw up browns are just not doin’ it for me. And hopefully Samsung loses the lame dock at the bottom and gets a better one. …Probably not, though. Lol.
Thanks again for calling and researching, you guys!
i gotmy update this morning but it got stuck on the boot cycle and it has been li dat for 5 hrs…can anybody help me cuz am scared
Got the 2.3 update several days ago. I was looking forward to the update because the release notes on the VZW website indicated that this release was going to support full device and SD card encryption. So, when the “reboot to update” notice came up, I did the reboot/update.Â
Thus far, I’m *not* seeing any new menu options for setting up device-encryption. I’ve noticed some VERY minor UI changes and, some features I liked are now missing from my phone. Awesome.
Opened an online support ticket with VZW on the encryption issue. After several days’ wait, they sent me back instructions for doing the encryption. Unfortunately, the menu navigation they listed were for items that weren’t actually in the phone’s menu system. Awesome.
So, I called in to try to actually speak with someone. After the phone rep spoke to one of their tier3 people, they come back on the line to tell me that the update automatically encrypts the device. Really? Seems unlikely. VZW’s, essentialy, telling me that they encrypted my device but didn’t set a pass-key for doing so? One wonders what the value of encryption is if no unlock key-phrase is set.
Anyone know what the real story is on the device encryption? I don’t want to have to waste the money on a micro-SD to full-SD adapter just so I can see if the SD card is actually enrypted (I’m guessing the phone rep mis-translated either my question or the response).
If anyone from Verizon is reading this: removing the ability to turn off the data connection from the power-button menu REALLY freaking sucks. You took the one marginally useful feature I actually used on the phone and got rid of it. Awesome.
Not impressed with new reduced battery life.
