In what is now a fairly crowded market for smartphones, Research in Motion (RIM) have taken a step forward in opting to use a “cross-platform” product that will cement their devices in what is now a difficult market to be positioned. It seems that news is now pointing towards the Canadian company’s device management system being able to support mobile devices running on BlackBerry, iOS and Android operating systems.
The new BlackBerry Mobile Fusion MDM as its called, will according to theurbantwist.com, not only offer a cross-platform device management, but will include a feature that gives users the chance to join in with non-work related activities on their personal devices outside of their work environment, which will be achieved through a “toggle” feature allowing users to check in and out of their work placement.
Added to this, the new Mobile Fusion MDM will secure and manage RIM’s Playbook tablets, support for BlackBerry Balance, manage devices with users, groups and policies from just a single sitting and so on.
In a statement from the company’s Alan Panezic he said, “BlackBerry Mobile Fusion brings together our industry-leading BlackBerry Enterprise Server technology for BlackBerry devices with mobile device management capabilities for iOS and Android devices, all managed from one web-based console. It provides the necessary management capabilities to allow IT departments to confidently oversee the use of both company-owned and employee-owned mobile devices within their organizations.”
