Over the last year, Google Android has been implemented on a great many devices, be it smartphones or tablets. On occasion, we’ve spoken about how at times, Android has taken over that of others such as iOS.
At the CES annual event currently in full swing in Las Vegas, Google’s very own Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt has spoken out about how Android is not fragmented, putting his argument across that in fact there is a “differentiation” between devices.
In a fairly lengthy speech, according to pcmag.com Schmidt was keen to point out that, “Differentiation is positive, fragmentation is negative. Differentiation means that you have a choice and the people who are making the phones, they’re going to compete on their view of innovation, and they’re going to try and convince you that theirs is better than somebody else.”
He then went on to speak about the topic of fragmentation by saying, “Fragmentation, however, means that you have an app and it runs on one device but not the other.” Schmidt explained that Google are hoping to get everyone on Ice Cream Sandwich, with manufacturers being allowed to add or change the UI as long as they don’t break the apps.”
