News has been rife today in relation to Canadian company Research in Motion (RIM) and who is in the running to buy part if not the entire struggling phone maker. Unfortunately despite the company still being valued in the region of $9 billion, in recent months the company have been in dire straits regarding sales of their devices, leading to a bad taste felt with investors.
According to BGR, Research in Motion looked to be contemplating licensing their software to interested parties, but the likelihood is that part if not all of the company could be sold. South Korean company Samsung were reported to be interested with an emphasis on RIM’s BlackBerry Messenger service (BBM), this would then pave the way for real competition against others. It was thought that co-CEO of RIM Jim Balsillie was in talks with those that were interested in pursuing the company, particularly that of Samsung.
Mixed reports as stated by reuters.com are coming through that Samsung is not interested in licensing RIM’s software, but interest may be racking up from some Asian smartphone makers such as HTC, LG Electronics and ZTE.
