The first Android based slate from Amazon; the Amazon Kindle Fire has been quite a success for Amazon since the tablet was released to the mobile space, probably mainly due to its low price. However the current 7-inch Kindle Fire could well be joined by a bigger brother later this year.
According to an article over on Digital Spy by way of AllThingsD, Amazon is apparently preparing to deliver a new 9-inch version of the Amazon Kindle Fire sometime in 2012.
Apparently Chad Bartley, an analyst for Pacific Crest increased his estimates for sales of the Amazon Kindle Fire tablet for 2012 this week and also claims that Amazon is gearing up to launch new versions of the tablet later this year.
Bartley says that they believe there is an “upwards bias” particularly from new 7-inch and 9-inch models that they “expect to launch in mid-2012.”
Of course if Amazon does deliver a new 9-inch Amazon Kindle Fire slate mid-year then it will be going up against the next generation iOS slate from Apple, the Apple iPad 3 which is expected to launch in the first week of March.
Having said that, no doubt Amazon will be looking at a much lower price for the 9-inch Kindle Fire than Apple will be demanding for the Apple iPad 3, so a new 9-inch Kindle Fire just might appeal to more people out there especially when times are tough finance wise.
According to the report the guys also say that Amazon might be looking at the first Kindle smartphone (presumably Android based) launch sometime this year, but no word on that just yet.
So if Amazon does deliver a 9-inch Kindle Fire this year will any of our readers be interested in snapping up the new slate?
