Well it looks like Apple and Samsung aren’t meant to get along what with all the tit-for-tat patent infringement lawsuits that have been flying around between the two companies in the past. And it appears that Apple is now targeting the first Android Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone to hit the states, and is attempting to get the Samsung Galaxy Nexus banned from sale on US soil.
According to the guys over at The Next Web, by way of FOSS Patents, Apple has now filed for a preliminary injunction against the Galaxy Nexus, claiming the Android 4.0 smartphone infringes on no less than four Apple patents.
The four patents in question are data tapping, Siri search functionality, slide to unlock, and a patent to do with the way words are auto-recommended when typing into iOS.
Apparently the patents are quite new with the exception of that “data tapping” patent which has already seen some success against Android handsets, winning a ban on the import of HTC devices by the ITC that comes into force in April this year.
Thus it seems that the legal confrontation between Apple and Samsung continues this time dragging the Samsung Galaxy Nexus into the frame, whether Apple will be successful in their attempt to get the device banned remains to be seem of course and no doubt it will take months for a final ruling to be handed down…more as and when we hear.
