Galaxy S III expectations, what we know

News of the forthcoming Samsung Galaxy S III or S3 as its written is big news at the moment, and there’s a huge percentage hanging on to find out when it’s going to be officially showcased. Recent news is pointing to the South Korean company giving us a glimpse and details of the S3 at a special event towards the end of March, missing the MWC event in Barcelona completely.

Although disappointment is felt by this, its impressive specs are not to be forgotten but we have to point out that these are purely speculation. It’s predecessor the Galaxy SII came out in 2011 to a huge fan base, and it was shortly afterwards that we all got wind that a future device would be on the cards! Initially as pocketlint.com pointed out, news reportedly came through from Samsung saying that a third version of its Galaxy S smartphone would be coming the first part of 2012, with what appeared to be a follow-on in October of a Samsung roadmap.

This in itself started to indicate that the Galaxy SIII was on its way by the end of January, this of course wasn’t to be. Delays for whatever reason have come to light with the SIII now destined to come before the summer with the US enjoying the handset the same time as everybody else, something of which plagued the Galaxy SII in 2011.

In terms of rumoured specs, the Galaxy SIII is expected to arrive with a 4.6-inch display with Super Amoled Plus H with 720 or 1080p, 12MP rear camera with benefit of a backlit sensor improving image taking in low-lit conditions, as to its processor still remains a talking point with many saying that Tegra 3 quad-cores are the name of the game, with its size being a 1.5GHz or 1.8GHz still being knocked around.

Design wise, the SIII is reported to be 7mm thick making it 1.9mm thinner than its predecessor with benefits from NFC and LTE support. Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 OS will no doubt be included with the possibility of a new TouchWiz 5.0. Many have taken a guess as to what the SIII will look like, with suggestion that the handset will be curvier with similarities to its brother the Galaxy Nexus.

Are you just as excited as we are to see the Galaxy S III? What are you hoping to see, and what does the handset need to see off competition?
