Although there are already a huge choice of tablets about there’s still room for one more it seems, so today we have news of the SKYTEX Skypad Alpha 2 Android tablet for you. This is a 7-inch tablet so may suit many of you who don’t want something too big and it looks to be an all round pretty decent device.
It runs on Android 2.3.4 but will receive a free upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in late February, which is a big plus. Powered by a 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor the Alpha 2 is well suited for browsing, streaming and gaming and also has a capacitive touchscreen. This slim and lightweight tablet is pre-installed with the 1Mobile Market Place with over 200,000 free apps available and also looks good, with an aluminum casing and neat design.
Other specs and features include a 7-inch color LCD display with resolution of 800×480 WVGA, Mali-400MP graphics, 512MB of memory and 4GB of internal storage expandable up to 32GB with MicroSD card. The Alpha 2 also has a 0.3 front-facing camera, 3.5mm earphone jack, mini-USB OTG 2.0 port, and 3,000mAh battery for up to 6 hours of use. Wireless 802.11 b/g/n support allows fast browsing and downloads via Wi-Fi and there’s also HDMI to connect to your HDTV for gaming and movies (cable not included) if desired.
Skytex bills the Skypad Alpha 2 as the “perfect device for the road, in-flight or around the house” and it’s hard to argue with that. If you’re interested in purchasing the Alpha 2 then Amazon is currently selling it at a more than reasonable price of $165, down from $226.99.
