The 2012 Mobile World Congress has been taking place for a couple of days now over in Barcelona, Spain. Consumers are being treated to a number of new smartphone devices that will be available in the coming months. Today we can tell you about the Acer Liquid Glow as it struts its stuff as an Android competitor.
The guys over at Engadget have managed to get some hands on time at the MWC event, and mention that the device hasn’t been as popular as its bigger brother the CloudMobile, which won an award for product design. The Liquid Glow is smaller than a lot of recent Android smartphones released recently, and features a 3.7-inch WVGA screen.
Owners will also be provided with a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon S2 processor, 512MB of RAM, and a five megapixel camera on the back. Just like the Huawei Ascend G 300 we reported about earlier the new Acer will come running Android Ice Cream Sandwich with its own overlay. The device that was seen at the show was running a stock version of ICS, but the user interface has been promised to be lightweight with Acer based enhancements to the lock the screen, messages, status bar, and cell phone dial pad.
Holding the device besides it thickness it felt nice when being held in the hand, but if you like a larger feeling device in the hand, or want a larger display the Liquid Glow may not measure up for you. The device actually felt smaller than it actually is, but the overall design was reminiscent of the CloudMobile.
There are some noticeable differences though such as the capacitive navigation buttons that the Glow has. In use there were no lags noticed with the performance of the software, but the real test will come with the final version of the device’s operating system. Unfortunately no pricing or availability has been set yet by Acer, but as long as the company gets pricing right it will be a worthy competitor in the sector.
