Asus first made the world aware of the PadFone way back in May of last year, and the device looks to be another nail in the laptop coffin as consumers move to smartphones and tablet PCs. The great looking Android smartphone can be inserted into the company’s 10.1-inch tablet, which goes by the name of PadFone Station.
As an article over at BGR.com is reporting this is then used with a keyboard dock, which basically then works as a notebook and a tablet. Asus are saying that using this device the days’ of data transfer issues are over. This is solved when one user is using the 3G tablet and smartphone with only a single SIM card is needed. Docking the PadFone into the tablet it will give users a nice expanded view of their tasks in hand.
Once docked the smartphone can recharge the tablet devices larger battery, and also take advantage of the handsets 3G data connection. What will be pleasing for perspective purchasers of the device is that it will come running Android Ice Sandwich straight from the box. The PadFone will feature a lovely 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display, which will be protected from what life can throw at it by Gorilla Glass.
It will be powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor with a VGA shooter, and an eight megapixel unit. The PadFone Station features a 10.1-inch capacitive screen that is also protected by that all important Gorilla Glass. Asus DynamicDisplay technology will let apps restart from the same position they were last used when switching from the PadFone to the PadFone Station and back again.
Users are also treated to a neat Bluetooth stylus that can also be used as a headset. Currently Asus have not revealed the pricing for the devices, but shipping is expected to begin in April. This new device from Asus is basically a smartphone, tablet, and laptop all in one, so is this the device that will attend the laptop funeral?
