If you’re in the market for an affordable smartphone and want to try out the Android platform then a good option for you is now available to order through Virgin Mobile. The PCD Venture runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, so it’s not the latest Android ICS operating system, but then the price is only $99 with no contract and that seems more than reasonable.
It’s a pretty basic phone as you’d expect for that price but certainly suitable for many people’s needs. Some of the specs and features include a 600MHz processor, 2.8-inch touchscreen display, QWERTY keyboard, 512MB of RAM, microSD slot for cards (2GB card included with support of up to 32GB) and a 2-megapixel camera with LED flash and video capture. Okay, so the specs are nothing to blow you away but the PCD Venture is aimed at those in the market that just require a straightforward phone that does the job.
The PCD Venture also comes with 3G connectivity and the usual GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0 as well as support for Virgin Mobile ID Packs, as reported here. For $45 monthly you’ll get 1,200 voice minutes with unlimited data and messaging or for $55 you’ll receive unlimited voice minutes as well as unlimited data and messaging.
