We have some important news today for owners of HTC handsets who use the company’s Sense website to backup their data, as the company are bringing down the shutters on the service.
The company has announced plans that it is to shut down the HTCsense.com cloud backup service in a few days time on April 30th, which according to PC Advisor includes user’s contacts, call history, geotagged images, and messages. HTC said the move is in preparation for the launch of a new service that has been enhanced.
After the date the service will no longer be available for users and the company is planning to delete user’s data, and before this happens HTC are advising customers to download their data and have offered tips on how to go about this.
The mobile phone manufacturer are also urging customers to visit Google Play to have a look for a backup application that may fit their requirements, but didn’t offer any hints on what is best to use. HTC also didn’t provide any information on when the new service will be launched or details about what it will offer.
A few months ago HTC announced it was going to launch Sense 4, which is the latest version of its Android overlay, and owners looking to purchase the HTC One range of smartphones will have Sense 4 along with 25GB of free storage thanks to Dropbox. This will be integrated with the new version of Sense allowing users to easily share images via Dropbox.
HTC may also use technologies now at its disposal after purchasing Dashwire in 2011, which allows phone users to store data online such as calendar entries, images, contacts, SMS messages, voicemail messages, and videos. Users will also be able to access that data via a browser on a computer, and previously HTC said it would use the Dashwire technology to expand its HTC Sense cloud services.
