2012 looks to be a good year for smartphone fans with a number of great handsets being released throughout the year. HTC recently announced its new One series of handsets and today we have an article reviewing the HTC One S with a verdict on the new hardware.
The guys over at the Android Community have spent some time with the handset putting it through its paces, and just to recap the One S comes packing the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 1.5GHz dual-core processor running Android 4.0.3 and the Sense 4.0 Android overlay. Straight away it was noticed that the 4.3-inch AMOLED display has great viewing angles all the way around, which is mainly down to the optical lamination bond that has been used to fix the AMOLED panel to the fascia glass.
The nice feel of the handset is continued with the back panels that are made of one of two kinds of finished metals, which makes the handset nice to hold on a daily basis. HTCs Sense 4.0 has full integration of Android ICS facial recognition feature along with the full quota of Android 4.0 apps.
It was found that Sense 4.0 offers the same good set of enhancements that have been provided before on previous HTC handsets, which includes the option of creating several different homescreen setups. The widgets from the company are still the same good quality that you come to expect, and the Car Mode has been updated to provide the best experience yet.
The all important battery life on the handset was also tested and the HTC One S has some of the best power saving settings currently available on a smartphone. Thanks to the Snapdragon S4 processor the device will run for at least as long as any rival device in-between charges, and when you have the handset in your pocket or bag with the screen off the battery drain is virtually nothing.
One of the standout features of the new One S is the camera, and the device won’t disappoint as there are a great number of adjustments and effects available to users. Video and still images were found to be of great quality, and in a variety of lighting conditions. There is also a new slow motion special effect included straight out of the box, and the new HTC Image Chip has provided a great leap in photo quality.
It looks like HTC will be well on their way to again being crowned the king of quality hardware for the Android platform this year, and with the HTC One S it was hard to actually find a fault with the device, with a number of features that fit nicely together and seems HTC are well on the way to make up for its mistakes last year.
