Small new iPad being tested by Apple
It seems that this little rumour about a little iPad just doesn’t seem to want to go away, for months there has been sepculation that Apple is working on a smaller iPad, some referring to the iOS slate as the Apple iPad Mini, others calling it the Apple iPad Nono, but as Apple have gone with that ‘new’ for their latest slate, perhaps it should be called the small new iPad.
Anyway, new speculation has surfaced about this small new iPad according to the guys over at Ubergizmo by way of The Tech Block, which claims Daring Fireball’s John Gruber is saying that Apple is currently testing a 7.85-inch iPad in their labs.
Apparently Gruber managed to garner information from numerous sources and concludes that the 7.85-inch iPad will have a 1024 x 768 resolution count, and that in order for applications to work on the smaller Apple iPad they wouldn’t need to be redesigned and recompiled.
Apparently though Gruber also says that a public release of a smaller iPad is far from certain, but if Apple wanted it is possible the company could deliver the smaller iOS tablet during WWDC, although apparently he is also wouldn’t be surprised if the small iPad never ships.
Current rumour is that if Apple is looking to deliver a smalleer iPad it is to take on such talets as the popular Amazon Kindle Fire and other small Android slates in order to grab a share of the small tablet market space. However, whether Apple will eventually deliver on that mini iPad is really anyone’s guess, and as thus still remains in the realms of speculation.
