The tablet PC getting most of the headlines in the last few weeks has been Apple’s new iPad, but not everyone can either afford or want the device. Luckily there are a number of alternatives available to consumers with more being added all the time, and today we have news of an older Android tablet PC as the UK gets treated to a Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 HD price cut.
Samsung’s flagship tablet PC the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is still holding its premium price, but according to ITProPortal its smaller sibling has seen its price cut to only £249 at retailer PC World, and you get a free £10 voucher thrown in as well.
The Galaxy Tab 8.9 is identical to its bigger brother the Galaxy Tab 10.1 except for the screen size and form factor in general. For your money you get a 1,280 x 800 pixels 8.9-inch capacitive display powered by a dual core Nvidia Tegra 2 SoC clocked at 1 GHz. You also get 16GB of built-in storage, 1GB of RAM, microSD card slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB 2.0, TV Out, 3 megapixel rear camera, front facing camera, and a 6100 mAh battery.
It comes running Android 3.1 Honeycomb but it is upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich, and the device is one of the thinnest available at only 8.6mm thick. The device gives those wanting an Android tablet but don’t want to pay a premium price for the likes of the Asus Transformer Prime a great alternative.
Online retailer Amazon has the device listed for £319.95 while Comet has it priced for £389.99 so the deal at PC World is a good one at the moment. The device is getting on a bit now so we can expect further price cuts in the future. Do you think the £249 price is a good deal?
