Mobile phone fans that are not interested in the iPhone 5 release this year may be looking to Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S3 handset, but now there are reports of the LG D1L that is tipped for a May release to take on the highly anticipated Android smartphone.
It is being reported that LG are looking to take on Samsung’s flagship handset with a worthy looking device of their own, and according to SlashGear the smartphone will sport a 4.7-inch display with 1280 x 720 resolution, and powered by a dual core processor. The device currently going under the codename LG D1L will come running Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS straight out of the box, and will feature Qualcomm’s 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor.
In tests this chipset has held its own compared to Nvidia’s quad core Tegra 3, and it’s also being reported that the LG D1L will also feature 4G LTE connectivity. It is believed the US and South Korea are penciled in for the handsets release, and a 3G HSPA+ version will be heading to Europe as well.
The company is set to use a LCD panel for the handsets display instead of an AMOLED that is found on Samsung’s high end smartphones. LG will have a fight on its hands though winning Android fans over away from the Galaxy S III, as the last two versions of the handset have sold extremely well.
It has been reported that the next version Galaxy S III will come with a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED Plus 720p display, packed into a slim form factor. LG meanwhile has so far been unable to match the success that Samsung has seen in the sector, but this can be said about most mobile companies except Apple. The company has yet to confirm the D1L and obviously it will go under a different name once the device is released.
