Sony Xperia S for Canada, Rogers Wireless compatible

If you are over in the great white of Canada, and hoping to snap up the Sony Xperia S smartphone at some point, the word is there will be a limited quantity of Sony Xperia S handsets available exclusively at Sony Stores across the country, and will be compatible with Rogers Wireless starting the 17th of this Month.

Word is according to the press release, the Sony Xperia S will be available to purchase directly at the Sony Store, and the handset will be launching in Canada with Android 2.3 Gingerbread aboard, although they haven’t stipulates what the Sony Xperia S will command price wise in Canada. Of course the Xperia S is expected to gain Android Ice Cream Sandwich at some point in the future.

The vice president of marketing, North America for Sony Mobile Communications, Peter Farmer says that the company is thrilled to offer Canadians the first Sony smartphone that combines an elegant design with exceptional performance along with a myriad of entertainment possibilities.

In case you may have forgotten, the Sony Xperia S offers the user a 4.3-inch LED-backlit LCD capacitive touch screen with scratch resistant glass, a 12 megapixel auto-focus rear facing camera with LED flash, 1080p video, a 1.3 megapixel front facing 720p camera, a 1.5GHz dual core processor, Sony Mobile Bravia Engine, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR, 1GB RAM, 32GB internal memory, NFC functionality, A-GPS with GLONASS and a 3.5mm jack.

    Yes you can get a plan through Rogers Canada, though again, it must be through Sony stores.
    Silly if you ask me.
    …irritating as well because where I live, Sony stores are no longer open.
    The closest place is Toronto, approx. 5 hours from me.
    Any word on a release date to become available from Rogers Canada directly?
