The UK public are currently enjoying the closing stages of this year’s Britain’s Got Talent show, and on Sunday to coincide with the first live semi final an official application was launched for iOS users to help with voting for their favourite acts, but we have news that the Britain’s Got Talent 2012 app has been axed.
The application was launched for owners of the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad that according to The Telegraph were quickly downloaded more than 500,000 times. There was also another new voting system introduced with mobile short dial codes, which allowed viewers to vote from their mobile phones with a guaranteed price of 50p no matter what provider they are with.
Before this calling premium rate numbers would cost a lot more compared to using a landline, and Ann Cook, Director of Interactive ITV & managing director of ITL said that the company were “looking forward to seeing how audiences respond to both these two new voting platforms, alongside the existing landline platform, as Britain’s Got Talent moves into its exciting live final phase this weekend”.
Unfortunately not everything went to plan as it has been announced on the official Britain’s Got Talent website that the application has been axed, and it states that during the first live semi final on Sunday the congestion for the app become too great so the decision was made to drop the application.
An apology is offered with the assurance that any votes made using the app were fully counted, and the congestion of the app made no impact on the outcome of the results for the show. After consulting with various parties it was decided not to offer the application for the remainder of this year’s series.
Customers that still have unused votes on their app account have been offered a full refund by sending their Vote Recovery ID number to itvihelp@itv.com, along with their full name and address. Did you try and use the Britain’s Got Talent app?
