Since the Google+ social network was launched the service has continued to be tweaked and refined to improve the user experience that the service provides, and the Google+ iOS app has just been revamped but the Android platform has been left waiting.
The search engine giant has released a new version of its Google+ app for the iPhone, but according to a report on PCWorld, Vic Gundotra from Google said that Android users would have to wait “a few weeks”. The updated application brings with it a new user interface with large photos and sleek animations, but not much more other than that.
Gundotra continued by saying that the company was not looking to provide a “mobile or social experience that’s just smaller”, but are looking to embrace the smartphone technology and transform “Google+ into something more intimate, and more expressive”, with the updated app promised to deliver that.
The iPhone app now with full-bleed photos, videos, elegant fonts, and large profile photos make the experience pleasing to the eye, and there is also a bubbling like animation when posts are loaded up, and seems very natural to scrolling on the handset. The application was found to be a vast improvement to the older version with a fluid and responsive feel.
Many will find it strange that Google updated the iOS version first instead of its own Android platform, and this is put down to the fact there is no dedicated iPad interface. Gundotra wouldn’t be more specific when the Android version would be updated, but said that it would be worth the wait and will feature “a few extra surprises”.
The company has also been working on enhancing the Google+ interface for desktop browser users, and last month the service received a complete overhaul with the Share button and Hangouts On Air being pushed out to all users. Are you surprised that Android users have been kept waiting for the update?
