There were recently warnings for iOS users not to update their hardware to the recent iOS 5.1.1 software release by Apple, in the meantime the jailbreaking community have been hard at work finding a solution to finally jailbreak the operating system, and now the untethered iOS 5.1 jailbreak nears after Pod2g releases a video.
As each day passes it seems we are getting closer and closer for the jailbreak to be released, but Chronic Dev hacker Pod2g has recently made another big announcement about his progress on the iOS 5.1 jailbreak. According to iDownloadBlog the hacker took to his Twitter account to reveal he had jailbroken a new iPad untethered running iOS 5.1.
This comes a week after Pod2g had revealed that he managed to get the untethered jailbreak running on his iPhone 4 with iOS 5.1, and it seems the hacker is well on his way now and on his Twitter post said “Hey. iPad 3,1 running iOS 5.1 untethered. Next on the list: stabilizing the payload, then trying 5.1.1.”
These weekly updates are similar to what was seen in the weeks leading up to the original iOS 5 jailbreak late last year, and this is a good sign that things are going smoothly for the hacker.
Releasing jailbreaks for multiple devices gets complicated as different generations of hardware use different processors and default versions of iOS, but the good news is that Pod2g’s untethered jailbreak will work on all devices that are capable of running iOS 5.1, except the latest version of the Apple TV.
As iDownloadBlog are reporting the video that can be seen below shows a new iPad running Cydia and going through the process of a reboot, and hopefully now this means we are pretty close to the jailbreak being released. Update: Pod2g has now said on his Twitter account that the jailbreak works on iOS 5.1.1.
Are you looking forward to jailbreak your iOS device?
