The ongoing saga with the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system being rolled out to various handsets, which in some cases are not very old, continues with the news that the Motorola Droid 3 and X2 are missing the Android ICS Boat.
Yesterday we reported that some Motorola phones will not get Android Ice Cream Sandwich if it does not improve the phone, the Motorola Droid 3 and Droid X2 are two of them, the reason we are writing about these particular phones is purely to ask readers who own these handsets how they feel about this.
The news from Motorola has been met with dismay by owners of some of the handsets, as GottaBe Mobile are reporting that users of the devices have been responding to the news with dismay, with some suggesting that the Motorola Droid 3 will be their first and last handset from the company. Another owner states that his Droid 3 is under a year old but the company has decided not to upgrade it, and basically deserting the device.
Both handsets were only released last summer and feature dual core processors with similar specifications to a number of other handsets, which are due to receive the new software or already have it. We recently told you about the HTC Desire HD that is an older handset that only uses a single core 1GHz processor, and an unofficial build of Android ICS has already been ported to it before it is released officially.
There is a chance that the 512MB of RAM may be holding the two handsets back, and annoyingly Motorola and Verizon have locked the bootloaders on the handsets so owners can’t flash custom ROMs to their devices. This has led to some users to request the companies now unlock the bootloader so they can upgrade their handsets to Android ICS themselves.
