Those of you with long memories may remember that way back last November we reported on news that Microsoft Office would be coming to the iOS platform. Although months have gone by with no further news we now hear that Microsoft Office is heading to iOS and Android devices in November.
The full Office suite looks set to come to the iPad and as well as iPad compatibility it also looks as though the iPhone and iPod touch could benefit too. Apparently the app loading screen shows the words “Office for iOS” rather than just iPad and so things are looking promising for iPhone users that would like Microsoft Office on their devices, although of course we cannot confirm anything at this time.
News of Microsoft Office launching on the iOS platform in November comes to us from BGR who cite a “reliable source” for the information. The source claims to have seen the Microsoft Office app already running on an iPad and says it is very similar to that shown in a previous leak on The Daily several months ago, even though Microsoft at the time flatly denied that the app was genuine. It’s thought that the app will offer Word, Excel and PowerPoint functionality.
The same source also says that it’s not only iOS device users who will be able to use the Microsoft Office app and asserts that Microsoft will be launching an app for Android tablets at the same time. So there you go, it has been a long wait and there are still a few more months to go but it does look as though the Microsoft Office suite apps will be available before the end of the year for both iOS and Android tablets and possibly iPhones and iPod touch’s too.
Have you been waiting for further developments on the Microsoft Office app for iOS? Are you hoping that it will indeed be compatible with the iPhone as well as the iPad? Let us know with your comments.
