We have some great news today for the many of you who are waiting for the iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak to be released as it has just become available. We’ve been following the exploits of pod2g and others to get this jailbreak to a public release and as we expected yesterday, it has arrived today.
Every day the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1 has been getting closer and yesterday we told how it looked like it may be demonstrated live today at the Hack in the Box conference. Finally the public release has been announced and we also have a download link for you. As usual we can’t recommend that readers jailbreak their devices but we do know that many of you can’t wait to get cracking.
News of the public release comes from iDownload Blog and the iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak is Absinthe 2.0 as we previously informed. Absinthe version 2.0 is compatible with all of the following devices running iOS 5.1.1, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4 CDMA, iPhone 4S, iPad 2 WiFi, iPad 2 GSM, iPad 2 CDMA, IPAD 2 WiFi R2, iPad 3 (new iPad) WiFi, iPad 3 CDMA, iPad 3 Global, iPod 3G, iPod 4G, and Apple TV 2. The untethered jailbreak is not compatible for Apple TV 3.
Absinthe 2.0 is available for Mac, Windows and Linux and if you head to this iDownload Blog download page and scroll down the page to the Absinthe section you’ll find download links for each version available. Pod2g has also now announced the public release of the jailbreak on his blog and says to enjoy it so we guess some of you will be busy this weekend! He cites the GreenPoison website for the Absinthe 2.0 downloads and you can find them here with instructions, as well as the above links. You can see pod2g’s tweet about the release below this story.
It looks like it’s time again then to celebrate the amazing work of hackers like pod2g and others as the iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak finally arrives. Let us know what you think of the work that these hackers do by sending your comments. Also if you’re trying out the jailbreak perhaps you could let us know if it all went smoothly for you?
