The updating of various Android smartphones to the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system is certainly a long drawn out process, which will have many iPhone fans poking fun at their Android owning friends, and today we have news about the possible Sony Xperia Play ICS update disappointment.
Back at the end of March Sony revealed their roadmap for the updating of the Xperia range to Android 4.0, and the Xperia Play was down to get the new operating system at the end of May or the beginning of June, but as an article on Electric Pig is reporting the update may not come at all.
On Sony’s own website there is a list of upcoming Android ICS updates, and the Xperia Play has seemingly disappeared from this list that still includes the Xperia Arc, Xperia Pro, and Xperia Ray. This is despite the fact that a while back the company revealed and then released a beta version of the Android ICS update for the handset aimed at developers and networks.
There were a number of bugs found that needed sorting, which in itself is not unusual before the final build is released, and given that the software existed in the first place suggests the handset is more than capable of handling the operating system. There will be many Xperia Play owners out there that may be disheartened by this news, and the handset has not been the huge success that was first hoped ahead of its launch.
Before Xperia owners get too worried the disappearance of the handsets listing on Sony’s website may just be down to an error, or at the very least another delay in getting the update pushed out to the handset. Are you worried that Android Ice Cream Sandwich will not be coming to the Sony Xperia Play?Update: Sony have since confirmed that the Xperia Play won’t be getting the Android ICS update, and put it down to an unstable experience with it running on the handset especially for gaming.
