Every now and then we like to give readers details of new apps or a roundup of apps about one subject and today we’re looking at Benchmark speed test aps for Android. We have three different apps that may interest readers to assess the performances of devices.
All of the following benchmark apps are available from the Google Play store and all are free apps so simply click the links to head straight to more information or to download them. The first app we have for your consideration is Linpack for Android from GreeneComputing. This is compatible for devices running Android 1.6 or later and allows users to speed test their Android devices with standard CPU benchmark. You can then compare speeds between devices and results are given in MFLOPS (millions of floating point operations in seconds). You can then save the results or post them on the website. New to this version of the app is the ability to fully test multi-core processors using multi-threading.
The next app is AnTuTu Benchmark from AnTuTu and this is also compatible for devices running Android 1.6 or later. This benchmark can run full tests including Memory Performance, CPU Integer Performance, CPU Floating Point Performance, 2D 3D Graphics Performance, SD Card Reading/Writing Speed and Database I/O. Users can also upload their scores and look at their devices among world rankings.
Finally we have the CF-Bench app from Chainfire, compatible with devices running Android 2.1 or later. This is a multi-core-capable CPU benchmark and can produce a fairly stable score and can handle native as well as managed code performance. This runs in a set timeframe and includes some tests for specific device properties that are not tested on other benchmarks. Some ‘final’ scores are produced but the app description notes that they should be taken with a grain of salt, as with any other benchmark, due to the fact that one number cannot precisely account for the performance of a device.
So there you have it, three very useful benchmark test apps for your Android devices. Hopefully you’ll find at least one that suits you and maybe if you download any of these you could let us know what you think of it. Maybe you already use one of these apps and could recommend it (or not) to our readers.
