Normally the Apple iPhone comes with expensive monthly contracts that require customers to sign up to a lengthy two year contract, but today we have news of a prepaid iPhone coming to the US via Cricket Wireless.
According to an article on AppleInsider Cricket Wireless will become the USs first fully prepaid carrier to offer the iPhone via an ‘unlimited’ $55 per month plan. Cricket Wireless is a prepaid arm of Leap Wireless that offers consumers unlimited data plans that are subject to a fair usage policy of 2.3GB per month. The small carrier has 6.2 million customers and today announced that it would be the first prepaid company to offer the handset to its customers.
Beginning on June 22nd the carrier will sell the 16GB version of the iPhone 4S without a contract for $500, or you can have the 8GB version of the iPhone 4 for $400, and both will be compatible with the carriers unlimited $55 per ,month talk, data, and SMS plan.
Consumers interested in the offer will be able to pick the devices up in Cricket company owned retail stores, and select dealers in almost sixty markets. Alternatively the iPhones will also be available via the phone on 800-853-7682 or the official website.
The carrier offers its voice and data services via 3G CDMA and 4G LTE networks, and its parent company Leap is responsible for the seventh largest wireless network in America that has coverage in all fifty states. Cricket is the latest regional carrier to offer the iPhone as Apple looks to have smaller carriers in the country offering its customers the iPhone.
Already this month Apple has added California’s Golden State Cellular, Kansas’ Nex-Tech Wireless, and Kentucky’s Bluegrass Cellular to its official carrier partners. Previously in April another five carriers started to sell the iPhone 4 and 4S that included Appalachian Wireless, Alaska Communications, Cellcom, GCI, and nTelos, while back in October C Spire Wireless begun offering its 900,000 customers the device.
