Apple updates Siri with new features and iPad compatibility

This year’s WWDC event is currently on going in San Francisco and as expected, Apple has announced the next version of its mobile operating system, iOS 6, and with it the company has announced an update to Siri with some new features and iPad compatibility.

The new version of Siri according to iMore will heavily focus on sports, movies, and restaurants. Users will be able to ask for tailored information about sports scores and information on players, and restaurants will now provide detailed information about opening hours, Yelp reviews, and the option of booking a table via OpenTable.

For movies users will be able to ask about actors and get local movie times, and also get reviews via Rotten Tomato. Siri will also now be able to launch applications that are asked for by the user, and the company is going to work with a number of car manufacturers to provide users hands free voice activation.

The biggest announcement was the fact that Siri will be coming to the new iPad and iPad 2 but the original iPad is set to miss out for now. The frustration that many Siri users outside of the US have found with the Siri feature that it’s virtually useless, but Apple also announced that the local search functionality will work on sixty different countries outside the US.
