We have some good news today concerning a great deal coming up for the Samsung Galaxy S2 on Sprint, aka Epic 4G Touch. With the big launch of the Galaxy S3 (S III) coming up Sprint is just about to drop the price of the Galaxy S2 to only $99.99 after rebate, a pretty impressive price for such a classy smartphone that’s only 9 months old.
Okay so we have to realize that the reason for the price drop is obviously because of the Galaxy S2’s successor arriving on June 21. Nevertheless the Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch was an impressive handset when it arrived on Sprint last September and that is not lessened too much by the fact that an even better version will be available. Also we should consider that whereas the Galaxy S3 has 4G LTE connectivity, Sprint’s rollout of its new LTE network has not yet officially begun. Some buyer’s then may even prefer the Sprint Galaxy S2 variant, the Epic 4G Touch, which uses WiMax 4G as this is much-more widely available, especially at that knock down price.
News of the price drop was brought to us by Phandroid, sourced from TechnoBuffalo. As Phandroid points out, if a year ago you’d told us a Galaxy 4G device with Exynos dual-core processor would be available at only $100 we’d have been pretty amazed and not everyone will need the all-singing, all-dancing Galaxy S3. The price of the GS2/Epic 4G Touch will be cut on the same day as the S3 releases, June 21, so not too much longer to wait if you decide this is a good deal for you.
As a brief reminder of Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch specs and features we can tell you it has a 1.2GHz Exynos dual-core processor, 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage expandable via microSD card, 8-megapixel rear camera with 1080p video capture and a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter and it runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
We reckon this is a pretty good deal and wonder if any of our readers will be taking advantage of this notable price cut? Let us know with your comments.
