Amazon has been offering Android mobile applications for quite a while now via the Amazon Appstore, although only in the United States; however, there have been rumours that the Amazon Appstore would surface in Europe at some point in the future, and now it would appear Amazon has confirmed Europe will gain the Appstore.
According to the guys over at Phone Arena by way of Android Authority, Amazon has posted a message for app developers that states “Apps will be made available for distribution in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain later this summer, with plans for further global expansion in the future.”
So there it is, for those Android faithful in the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Italy who haven’t been able to make use of the Android apps offered on the Amazon Appstore, it has been confirmed that at some point soon you should be able to hit up the Amazon Appstore to grab a few apps as Amazon drops US exclusivity.
Apparently all existing apps will automatically be made available internationally, but app developers can select which countries their apps are offered in, whilst prices can be set to Euros and pounds for the United Kingdom.
New of the Amazon Appstore coming to Europe could also indicate that the Amazon Kindle Fire could also possibly be heading to Europe at some point in the future, possibly this summer as well, although that particular part hasn’t been confirmed but there is no reason why Amazon shouldn’t deliver the Kindle Fire slate to Europe once their Appstore is available.
