If you’re waiting for the Android 4.0 ICS update for your Motorola Droid RAZR or Droid RAZR MAXX on Verizon, then after the various upsets of the last week or so we now have a tentative date for you to mark on your calendars. It seems that June 27 has been tipped as the date that 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be made available so if this is accurate there’s only one more week to wait.
No doubt if you have one of these devices you will have been closely following developments as we know that many RAZR users are eager to get their hands on this latest OS upgrade. After rumored rollout dates of ICS came and went we then heard the stories of some RAZR and RAZR MAXX device owners receiving texts from Verizon saying the update was coming soon. However Verizon then denied sending the texts that were dismissed as spam. We then told how the ICS update had apparently reached beta users and now we have some further info to pass on.
A report on Droid-Life talks about Motorola soak test invites being sent out for members of its feedback network for a new software release and the site has now received a tip off to say that the soak test will begin on June 22. Even better news is that it looks as though Motorola may be able to stick to its intended Q2 rollout for the ICS update to these devices as a date of June 27 has been given for the public rollout to begin. Obviously this is not yet set in stone and we have no verification of Droid-Life sources but we do know we have had plenty of reliable information from them in the past.
In more news though it seems that Verizon have also sent out tweets from its support account in the past few days that are slightly less reassuring. Gotta Be Mobile reports of one tweet that said to a customer, “My sincere apologies if anyone promised ICS for your Maxx. VZW has never stated definitive release date for that upgrade ^DGM,” while another official tweet reads, “I wasn’t aware that the manufacturer had stated a release date, either. June or otherwise.” We can only hope that these tweets came from someone at Verizon with no first-hand knowledge of the situation.
We would imagine that when ICS for the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX does eventually see its public release that it will be an OTA update so even if it does begin rolling out on June 27 we should bear in mind that the rollout may be staggered and that it may take some days to reach all device owners. Alternatively device owners may need to check for update notifications.
