Despite many consumers patiently waiting to see what the next version of Apple’s flagship smartphone will be like later this year, the current model continues to sell well and today we can tell you that the Cricket Wireless iPhone 4S sees brisk demand after going on sale.
Last month the company announced it was to become the first prepaid carrier in the US to sell the Apple iPhone, and as PCMag are reporting Cricket Wireless has now begun selling the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S to prepaid customers via its stores and select dealers from yesterday. It offers customers its $55 per month unlimited talk, text and data plan and there was a high demand for this according to the company.
A Cricket spokesman stated that “So far, customer activity has been brisk with customers waiting at the door as the stores opened”, and the carrier offers the handset to customers without a long contract, but this is reflected in the high upfront cost for the device. The 16GB iPhone 4S is available at $499.99 while the 8GB iPhone 4 is priced at $399.99, and both handsets are available in black or white colour options.
Doug Hutcheson, president and CEO of parent company Leap said the company was “proud to offer iPhone customers attractive nationwide coverage, a robust 3G data network and a value-packed, no-contract plan”. Cricket will have some competition soon though as only next week Sprint’s Virgin Mobile USA arm will also begin offering the Apple iPhone on a prepaid basis from the 29th.
Currently out of all the major carriers in the country only T-Mobile doesn’t offer its customers the iPhone, but is busy building a network that will be more friendly to the handset in the future, and there are a number of regional carriers that also offer customers the iPhone.
