Not too long ago it was claimed that the iPhone 4S was surpassed in sales by the Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX on Verizon, making the Android smartphone the top selling handset on the Big Red, it appears that another report basically says it isn’t so and that the iPhone is still top dog on the Verizon network
According to the guys over at Slash Gear, by way of Apple Insider, Michael Walkley, an analyst for Canaccord Genuity claims that the iPhone 4S is still the top selling smartphone on Verizon, and has also been the top selling smartphone across all major carriers for all 2012 so far.
It was previously reported by Anil Doradla, an analyst for William Blair that the Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX had pushed the iOS smartphone into second place on the Big Red network for the June quarter.
However, Walkley believes that this is untrue and that although the Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX is ‘ground breaking’ the Android smartphone ‘hasn’t caught iPhone’ whilst his own channel checks showed that the iPhone 4S is still the number one selling smartphone, with the Droid RAZR MAXX taking second place, followed by the Samsung Galaxy Nexus coming in third.
Considering the huge following Apple has over in the good old USA, it doesn’t surprise that the iPhone is still the top selling handset, but Android continues to push, and all good things eventually come to an end, as they say, so sooner or later another device is going to come along that will topple Apple’s iPhone from that top slot, and perhaps given the chance, the Samsung Galaxy S3 might be the device to accomplish that.
