Since it was first revealed a few months ago a lot has been made of the Nokia 808 PureView and its camera technology, but today we can tell you that the UK carriers are not showing the device any love.
According to an article on Wired the Nokia 808 won’t be arriving on the O2 network, and rival carriers Orange, T-mobile, and Vodafone are also not going to offer their customers the 41 megapixel camera phone either. So far Three hasn’t denied or confirmed if it would offer the handset to consumers.
It is thought that O2 decided not to stock the Nokia 808 PureView handset because of its aging Symbian operating system, and comes as the camera technology has won many plaudits from critics with the device capable of taking stunning images that have even beat a standalone digital camera in blind testing.
Symbian has lacked new innovations and features recently compared to rival operating systems, even though it was once a favourite of the mobile world. Nokia has since dropped the OS in favour of the Windows Phone platform from Microsoft in an attempt to turn its fortunes around.
The handset now looks to be left out in the open during Nokia’s transition over to Windows phone, but O2 stated that they will be working with Nokia “on future products”, and Nokia themselves has already stated that the PureView technology will eventually find its way onto future Lumia handsets.
Consumers can still pick up the Nokia 808 PureView SIM free with the online retailer Amazon having it available for £499.98. The company has recently reported a loss of about £1 Billion during the first quarter of this year, which was partly down to a drop of 52% in sales and this news won’t help Nokia’s cause much either.
