Good news today for those of you who’ve been waiting to find out about a release date and price for the Motorola Atrix HD which is heading to AT&T as an exclusive in the U.S. Motorola officially announced the phone today and there’s hardly any time at all to wait, as it will be released on AT&T on July 15.
We’re very pleasantly surprised at the price too as the Atrix HD will cost only $99.99 on the usual two-year contract. Taking into consideration this is one of the few handsets released running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and that it features 4G LTE connectivity we have to commend Motorola and AT&T for the extremely competitive pricing. Last week we told of a Motorola landing page for the Atrix HD that seemed to show it would be coming to AT&T and also offered up specs details but we still had no idea when it would arrive so this news will please many potential customers.
We heard of the release date and price through BGR, where you can also see the Motorola press release. As a reminder of specs we’ll tell you that the Atrix HD has a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 4.5-inch HD ColorBoost LCD display with scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD. The Atrix HD also sports an 8-megapixel rear camera with auto-focus, LED flash and 1080p video capture, along with a 1.3-megapixel front-facer capable of 720p HD video chat, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and a 1780mAh battery.
We think it’s a good-looking handset too and at only 8.4mm thick it should appeal to plenty of buyers. Motorola also make a big play of the Kevlar casing for the Atrix HD which features a splashguard coating to protect internal electrical circuits as well as the outer shell and also reminds us the phone features SMARTACTIONS, an app that can help you organize your phones settings to suit you and save on battery life.
There are a lot of good things to be said about the Motorola Atrix HD and very little negative that we can think of so we think this one will achieve big sales for Motorola and AT&T. We’d like to hear your thoughts on the Atrix HD though? Will you be tempted to purchase it come July 15? Send your comments on this new ICS handset to let us know.
UPDATE: Since our report we have learned from BGR that the Atrix HD will be issued with a locked bootloader, news that will upset many potential customers who like to be able to tinker with their devices. Although Motorola has previously stated its intention to provide a bootloader unlock tool and has reiterated this on Twitter, this might be small comfort to those who’ve been waiting for Motorola to start releasing devices with unlocked bootloaders as they once said they would.
