As with most devices that make their way to the United States, they have to go through the testing at the Federal Communication Commission before making it out into the mobile space, and now the Sony Xperia Tipo smartphone has hit the FCC for approval.
According to the guys over at Xperia Blog, the Sony Xperia Tipo also known as the ST21a is passing through the FCC, which might hint that the Android Ice Cream Sandwich handset is nearing release over in the good old US of A.
Apparently the Sony Xperia Tipo is compatible with AT&T 3G bands much like most Sony Xperia handsets, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the smartphone is destined to be offered by AT&T, as the Xperia Tipo could be sold via the Sony Store as a SIM free handset.
The guys also say that as the Sony Xperia Tipo is making its way through the FCC there is a possibility that the smartphone may also be released in Canada.
I’m sure you know that the Sony Xperia Tipo is an entry level handset, albeit being an Android Ice Cream Sandwich handset, and offers a 3.2-inch TFT capacitive touch screen along with a 3.2 megapixel rear facing camera with VGA video, a Qualcomm MSM7225A 800MHz processor, 512MB RAM, 2.9GB internal storage, Bluetooth, WiFi, microSD expansion up to 32GB, and a 1500mAh battery.
So, are any of our US readers hoping to snap up the Sony Xperia Tipo one it gains all the necessary from the FCC and actually becomes available, or do you have your eye on another Android smartphone?
