Samsung Galaxy Beam now available in UK, US release MIA

Many upcoming smartphones that get revealed can take ages before they actually reach consumers hands, and one such device is the Samsung Galaxy Beam that was first showed off back in February at the Mobile World Congress. Now though the Galaxy Beam is available in the UK but the US release date for the handset is MIA.

As an article over at V3.com is reporting the handset is now available in the UK via the Carphone Warehouse, and begins on deals starting at £31 per month. It was originally thought to be coming last month but according to Samsung’s vice president, Simon Stanford, the Galaxy beam is “the kind of device you won’t find anywhere else – a high definition projector within a standard sized smartphone”.

The built in projector is likely to be one of the Beam’s only big selling points though, as besides that the smartphones specifications leave a lot to be desired. The Samsung Galaxy Beam comes running the now ancient Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, and it is not known if it will ever receive Ice Cream Sandwich let alone Jelly Bean.

Otherwise the handset is powered by a dual core processor clocked at 1GHz that powers a rather disappointing 4-inch 480 x 800 WVGA screen. This is when consumers can pick up the flagship Samsung Galaxy S3 on cheaper contracts.

Camera wise there is a five megapixel shooter on the rear while around the front there is a 1.3 megapixel unit. It features 8GB of on board storage but this can be easily expanded thanks to the microSD card slot.

Battery wise the handset looks more impressive as it features a 2,000 mAh unit that is promised to provide a full day of normal use, but currently there are no figures regarding the use of the projector.

The handset is also available at a number of retailers with Expansys selling it without a contract for £384.99 including delivery, but Samsung has not revealed when the Galaxy Beam will be reaching US consumers.
