Early in October Sony halted the sale of the Sony Xperia Tablet S due to problems to do with the Android slate’s water resistance, with several of the tablets found to have gaps between the display and chassis. However, the Sony Xperia Tablet S is making a comeback, so this is a good example to put up against the Samsung Galaxy Nexus 10.
News of the Sony Xperia Tablet S making its comeback comes our way courtesy of Know Your Mobile, with news that the Android Ice Cream Sandwich slate should be residing back on store shelves as of the middle of November in time for the holiday buying season, as Sony has now fixed the manufacturing problem, which isn’t expected to reoccur.
However, of course the Sony Xperia Tablet S now faces stiff competition in the tablet space from the Google Galaxy Nexus 10, and as such Phone Arena has pitted both Android tablets against each other in a spec comparison, so we thought we’d pass that comparison along to our readers so they can make their own conclusions.
So here we go… the Xperia Tablet S runs Android 4.0.3 whilst the Google Nexus 10 also known as the Samsung Nexus 10 runs Android Jelly Bean 4.2. The Sony Xperia Tablet S sports a 9.4-inch TFT 1280 x 800 pixel with 161ppi display, while the Nexus 10 sports a 10.05-inch True RGB Real Stripe PLS 2560 x 1600 pixel with 300ppi display.
The Sony slate features an NVIDIA Tegra 3 T30L 1.3GHz ARM Cortex-A9 quad core processor along with ULP GeForce 416Mhz graphics processor, and the Nexus tablet sports a Samsung Exynos 5 1.7GHz ARM Cortex-A15 dual core processor with ARM Mali-T604 graphics processor.
Both Android tablets feature 16GB of internal storage, with the Xperia Tablet S having 1GB of RAM while the Nexus 10 has 2GB, although the Xperia Tablet S does offer microSD expansion while the Nexus 10 doesn’t.
When it comes to cameras, the Xperia Tablet S has an 8 megapixel rear facing camera along with a 1 megapixel front facing camera, and the Nexus 10 sports a 5 megapixel rear facing camera with LED flash along with a 1.9 megapixel front facing camera.
Size wise the Google Nexus 10 measures 263.9 x 177.6 x 8.9mm with a weight of 603 grams, whilst the Sony Xperia Tablet S measures 239.8 x 174.4 x 11.85mm with a weight of 585 grams.
So there you have it, a quick spec comparison between these two Android slates, but which would you prefer the Google Galaxy Nexus 10 or the Sony Xperia Tablet S?
