The jailbreaking community is on tenterhooks at the moment as the wait goes on for an iOS 6 / 6.0.1 untethered jailbreak. This has provoked a huge amount of debate and discussion online between the many people hoping for an untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 5 and other iOS devices and we’ve been keeping readers informed with all the latest developments. As we continue to wait though, we want to warn readers about a new untethered jailbreak scam, by way of a Redpois0n site.
We’ve cautioned readers several times now about various jailbreaking scams out there and recently told about a convincing-looking greenp0ison/absinthe site page that claimed to have an untethered jailbreak and was fooling a lot of people as it looked so similar to the genuine article. However this turned out to be yet another fake and as a general tip we’d say that you should beware of any site claiming to have an untethered jailbreak and asking for payment for it. Genuine jailbreaks from the likes of the Chronic Dev Team or iPhone Dev team come from people who do this in their own time and who do not charge for it when it releases.
Now another untethered jailbreak scam has surfaced and even though it seems to offer a free jailbreak we want to let readers know to avoid this site at all costs. The redpois0n.net page purports to be by the Chronic Dev Team (in fact it misspells it as the Chrnic Dev Team) and claims to have a RedPois0n RC2 untethered jailbreak for iOS 6 and 6.0.1 for the following devices, the iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 4, iPad 3, iPad 2, iPad mini and iPod touch 5th generation. Again, this latest scam looks pretty convincing but it is definitely a hoax so please don’t fall for it.
Although this Redpois0n untethered jailbreak page appears to offer the jailbreak free there are posts on forum threads saying that if you try to download the jailbreak you are referred to a survey. There are also cautions that potential jailbreakers should keep away from it before they mistakenly pick up all kinds of horrors. We’ll repeat then, there is still no untethered jailbreak for iOS 6 and 6.0.1 and when/if one does become available it will be publicized in the usual ways at the Chronic Dev Team or iPhone Dev Team websites or at reputable news sites or blogs. Another reliable ways of getting the latest information is through the Twitter accounts of some of the most renowned jailbreakers such as @pod2g, @musclenerd, @planetbeing and @p0sixninja.
The moment we hear anything further about a genuine iOS 6 or 6.0.1 untethered jailbreak we shall of course bring you all the details but until then please be aware of the RedPois0n scam and others that are out there. While we continue to wait patiently, or in the case of many, not so patiently, we’re interested to hear your thoughts on an untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 5. Are you one of those who are eagerly waiting?
