LG Optimus 7 Windows Phone 7.8 update disappointment

As expected when Microsoft announced the new Windows Phone 8 operating system the company revealed that all existing hardware would not be able to receive the new software. This obviously left many fans of the platform angry especially the ones that had only just purchased hardware, and to soften the blow Microsoft revealed Windows Phone 7.8, but there may be some more disappointment incoming for owners of the LG Optimus 7.

Some of the new features of the OS were recently leaked that looked great, but it seems there is some bad news incoming for owners of the LG Optimus 7 regarding the Windows Phone 7.8 update. According to WMPoweruser a Polish owner of the handset asked LG about the availability of the update, and got a reply stating the update was not expected to be hitting their version of the handset.

The LG Optimus 7 was one of the first handsets made available that was running the Windows Phone 7 operating system back in 2010. The handset is also known as the E900 and was later joined by the LG Optimus 7Q and LG Quantum, and like most of the first batch of Windows Phones the Optimus 7 runs on a single core processor clocked at 1GHz with only 512MB of RAM

It has received the Windows 7.5 Mango but this didn’t exactly run smoothly at the time, but there is no obvious reason why the Optimus 7 shouldn’t get the 7.8 update. The new software is basically a way for Microsoft to apologize to consumers that jumped on board the Windows Phone platform at an early stage and are now going to miss out on WP8.

The news has obviously been met with some anger from owners of the handset with some saying they are not exactly surprised by the news, and would never get an LG handset again. Many have liked owning the LG Optimus 7 with many referring to the handsets sturdiness but are unhappy at the apparent deserting of the device and platform by LG.

There is a chance though that the LG representative has got his facts wrong and the Optimus 7 will eventually be updated to Windows Phone 7.8, but we will just have to wait and see if any official announcement comes from the LG headquarters.

Will you be disappointed if the LG Optimus 7 doesn’t see Windows 7.8?
