What we saw of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 phablet smartphone impressed us before it was released and it has continued to impress us ever since. It’s a beast of a phone with a whopping 5.5 inch display, Android Jelly Bean and specs to match and today we have seen a video of the Galaxy Note 2 in use as a full desktop experience using Apple gear. This has once again reinforced our opinion that the Galaxy Note 2 is a force to be reckoned with.
There’s a lot to be said for the Galaxy Note 2 and we recently included it in our pick of some of the best US holiday season smartphones. A video on YouTube now shows even more of its capabilities and we wonder if one day it might be practical to replace your usual PC with a smartphone and other equipment. The video was created by ColdFustion and we’ve embedded it below this story so you can see for yourself just how impressive it is. The question is asked, “See if the Galaxy Note 2 can finally replace the personal computer.” It’s a 13-minute video so sit back and take it in and see what you think.
The experiment took place using a Galaxy Note 2 as the processor, Samsung’s official HML adapter, HDMI cable, Samsung 29-inch LED monitor and 5.1 surround sound speaker system. Input involved an Apple keyboard and magic mouse. The Galaxy Note 2 powered by the 1.6GHz Exynos 4212 quad-core Cortex A9 processor managed with flying colors to run 4 videos at once with a multitude of open apps, ably assisted by its 2GB of RAM.
It wasn’t until it was asked to run four Flash videos plus another two videos on a separate player that the Galaxy Note 2 showed signs of strain. The set-up gave a smooth and effective gaming experience though, however with a more intensive game, in this case Nova 3, there were some frame drops but only occasionally. The Batman: Dark Knight Rises game was particularly impressive as it’s such a new game and yet “ran like butter,” with no slowdowns. The Galaxy Note 2 being used in this way makes a notable video and we recommend you take a look below.
This trial just goes to prove the amazing breakthroughs in smartphone technology in recent times and as a taster for future developments this is even more exciting. We’d like to know what you think about the video and the Galaxy Note 2 being used as a replacement PC? Does it make you want to purchase the Galaxy Note 2 even more? Let us know with your comments.
