At Phones Review we like to keep people informed about smartphones across all platforms and sometimes like to discuss or offer some insight into a future smartphone. Today we are focusing on the iPhone 5S or 6, as we think the next iPhone is likely to be called, and in particular ask if Apple should be following a particular display size path like Samsung. We’d really like to know what display size you’d like to see on the next iPhone so read on.
There was a large amount of speculation about the iPhone 5 before it went official in September and one of the aspects that was most widely rumored was that it might step up in screen size. Indeed when it arrived it had increased from the 3.5-inch display of the iPhone 4S to 4-inches on the newest iPhone. This seemed to satisfy some customers as let’s face it, not everybody wants a larger device to carry around. However we cannot ignore that the growing trend for the latest smartphones is to have increasingly large displays,
Samsung is a prime example of this step up in display size and its devices are also exceptionally popular. The most popular smartphones on the market right now are from Samsung and Apple and each reiteration of a popular Samsung device seems to be growing in display size. Of course Samsung wouldn’t do this unless the demand was there and increasing sales seem to be proof that the company is on the right track.
For instance the original Galaxy Note that was released in 2011 had a 5.3-inch display. Step forward this year’s Galaxy Note 2, which increased display size to 5.5-inches. Although the Galaxy S line is smaller the size of displays is still growing. The Galaxy S2 in 2011 had a 4.52-inch display while the Galaxy S3 released earlier this year increased again to 4.8-inches. Earlier today we discussed the Galaxy S4 for 2013 and the rumor that it may even have a new 5-inch Full HD display that Samsung is currently developing.
As you can see then Samsung Android devices are steadily growing larger and Samsung must see a good reason for this. It’s not just Samsung devices either. In our pick of best smartphones for this holiday season that included the iPhone 5, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2, we also included the HTC Droid DNA, LG Nexus 4 and Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX HD. All of the last three phones have large displays that make the iPhone 5’s 4-inches look positively small at 5-inches, 4.7-inches and 4.7-inches respectively. Other major manufacturers then, also recognize the growing desire for devices with larger displays.
At Phones Review we think an increase in display size for the iPhone 5S or iPhone 6 may be too large if it went as far as the 5.5-inches of the Galaxy Note 2. That would be a little too close for comfort to the size of the iPad mini display. However we do think there’s scope for a step up in screen size to 4.5-inches or maybe 4.8-inches.
We’d really like to find out what you think about this though. Are you an iPhone owner who prefers the smaller size displays or maybe you would like to see an increase in size? Maybe you won’t consider purchasing an iPhone as the display just seems too small? What for you is the perfect display size for the iPhone 5S or 6? Let us know with your comments.
