Apple open iOS and underground jailbreak by pod2g

There is a new petition that has recently opened aptly named ‘We Want an Open iOS’ over on Twitition and this got us a little intrigued, this is a petition that needs a simple signing and once done an email will be sent to Apple. We here at phonesreview.co.uk thought we should look into this a little deeper and noticed that pod2g the famous iOS hacker has said a few words about this himself, below you will see a number of Twitter screenshots from pod2g and why he wants to see Apple open up its platform. There is no reason why Apple cannot open its iOS so that developers can submit themes and tweaks, and all that is needed is the ability to broaden its API/SDK.

Is there really anything stopping Apple reviewing apps once submitted if they open the iOS? Obviously to Apple they do not like this path but many are still saying “We Want An Open iOS”. Pod2g did tweet saying “I read some coms on the Internet today saying that if I started #weWantAnOpenIOS it is because we can’t jailbreak iOS 6 and Apple won” He then went to answer by saying “This is false in many ways. Firstly, the jailbreak is being developed in the underground, and is just not ready for a public release.”

FlawlessFox the creator behind “WeWantAnOpeniOS,” kicked off the Twitter petition aka twitition and so far there are 3230 signatures and rising, in this day and age anything is possible and for Apple to open up a little is not beyond impossible, third party widgets and native themes is easy enough to do considering the technology we have to put into motion and Apple can still like we said above approve apps that are submitted. As we all know, within the Android eco system bad apps and sometimes malicious ones at that get through, but there is nothing stopping Apple approving any apps open or not and still taking its massive 30 percent cut of app sales, in a way it could open more doors for more revenue.

If we take a look at a few of the screenshots we have taken via pod2g’s tweets we see a number of interesting things, for example the fact there’s no jailbreak for the iPhone 5 and that it could push Apple to open a little more their operating system for tweets and mods, he also hopes that Apple got the message and will open iOS to customizations. The one tweet we like the most is when pod2g mentions if the only possible way to weWantAnOpenIOS is the jailbreak, it’ll happen and that it is not the end. To be frank it is all possible but Apple like control and to open its iOS a little is not what they are about and we cannot see it happening, what do you think?

Please do head on over to WeWantAnOpeniOS twitition and sign away if you are interested in this, please do let us know in the commenting area below what your thoughts are. Should Apple open its iOS for mods and themes?
