During the last couple of years we have seen the screen sizes on our smartphones slowly increasing in size, and 2013 certainly seems the year of the 5-inch handset with a whole host of new devices due to become available. Now the Micromax A116 Canvas HD joins the 5-inch club that is getting more crowded all the time.
For those that have never heard of the company Micromax are among the leading mobile phone manufacturers in India, and has recently announced the new 5-inch A116 Canvas HD. The handset features a 5-inch HD IPS touchscreen display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 that has a quad core MediaTek MT6589 processor under the hood, which is clocked at 1.2GHz.
There is also an eight megapixel rear facing camera that is coupled with a LED flash, and also features a number of camera settings that include 4X zoom and a night mode. You will only find 4GB of on board storage but luckily this is expandable by up to a further 32GB thanks to the microSD card port.
The handset will come running the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system straight out of the box and is equipped with a 2,100 mAh battery. It will offer consumers a cheaper alternative to the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and HTC Butterfly, and is expected to be available during the first week in February.
Price wise it is thought to cost around the Rs. 15000 mark that brings it in way below the Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos that has just become available in the country. The company has also stated they plan to release thirty different smartphones this year to give consumers even more to choose from. Source: Fone Arena.
