When the Samsung Galaxy S4 was launched it was first thought to be the smartphone that would fracture Apple’s dominance with its popular sales of the iPhone 5, but according to a new smartphone rankings list by uSwitch Tech’s latest mobile tracker this was not the case.
Samsung sold a massive 10-million Samsung Galaxy S4 phones since its launch, but the iPhone 5 still tops the number one chart with UK consumers according to uSwitch.
Even Samsung Galaxy S4 pre-orders did not improve its ranking since April, leaving the iPhone 5 taking the top slot in the UK as the best mobile phone. uSwitch compiled its top 10 smartphones for May and even though Samsung devices dominate the list, number 1, 2 and 4 were dominated with the 16GB iPhone 5, 16GB 4S and the 8GB iPhone 4S respectively.
The 16GB Samsung Galaxy S4 only came in at number 3, the Galaxy S3 hit number 5, HTC One silver at 7, and then 8,9 and 10 on the list were the Sony Xperia Z, Samsung Galaxy Ace, Galaxy Note 2 and the Galaxy S2 respectively.
To see the old Apple iPhone 4S (16GB) beat the Samsung Galaxy S4 in the UK is astonishing, please read the full PDF press release of the compiled rankings by uSwitch.com who based its Mobile Tracker table on pre-orders, sales and live searches for the mentioned handsets.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 was a highly hyped device; it is already seeing price drops and offers all around the world especially in the UK. Apple products seem to get price drops on contract at the last minute before the next release is due.
Does this mean the Samsung Galaxy S4 needed more hype in the UK to push pre-orders and sales?
Apple is expected to launch the new iPhone 5S this year (Probably September), Samsung will need to pull something special out to compete with it in the UK it seems, or maybe a simple task of hyping the device in the UK a little more may do the trick.
