The Samsung Galaxy S3 was an instant hit when it released last year. However, although it is still available, a Galaxy S4 successor has recently released. Now the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is about to hit UK shelves, a smaller version of the Galaxy S4 with lesser specs. Today we want to delve into the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini vs. S3 price in the UK, and some of you may be surprised to learn that the S4 Mini actually costs more than a standard Galaxy S3.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini will be available from UK retailer Phones 4U on July 1 at a SIM-free price of £419.95. Although this is cheaper than the standard Galaxy S4 (£559.95) from the same retailer, it is more than the standard Galaxy S3, which is still available and priced at £399.95 SIM-free. The standard Galaxy S3 is still a very desirable smartphone, and there are likely to be many people who thought it would still be more expensive than the Galaxy S4 Mini.
Some consumers may not want to splash out on the more expensive Galaxy S4, but may be considering the Galaxy S3 or Galaxy S4 Mini instead. Unless you particularly want a smaller handset, the Galaxy S3 could well be a better option for you than the Galaxy S4 Mini, even though it won’t be as up-to-date as the newly released standard Galaxy S4. Although it may be over a year old, the Galaxy S3 still has a better display and processor than the Galaxy S4 Mini, so it’s difficult to see why someone would choose the S4 Mini rather than the Galaxy S3 (apart from its smaller size).
We’ll highlight some of the key specs of these two phones in the UK, and the Galaxy S4 Mini (pictured above) has a 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with resolution of 960 x 540, 8-megapixel rear camera, 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera, a 1900 mAh battery, and it runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. For more details see Phones 4U here.
Meanwhile the standard Samsung Galaxy S3 (pictured below) has a 1.4GHz quad-core processor, a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display with resolution of 1280 x 720, 8-megapixel rear camera, 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera, 2100 mAH battery, and it runs Android 4.0.4, upgradable to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. For more details see Phones 4U here.
We should point out that the prices above purely concern Phones 4U, and other retailers may be selling these phones at different prices. Also it’s possible that the price of the Galaxy S4 Mini may drop shortly after its release. Considering the specs of each though, it would be interesting to hear from readers who were about to buy the Galaxy S4 Mini and may now be considering the standard Galaxy S3 instead. Were you expecting the Galaxy S4 Mini to have a much cheaper price? Which would you choose, and why? Let us know with your comments.
