Sony Xperia Z Ultra Wi-Fi only version may be coming

We always enjoy a spot of intrigue and today have a interesting snippet of news regarding the Sony Xperia Z Ultra phablet. This popular smartphone with a whopping 6.4-inch display arrived a few months ago, and it now appears that the Sony Xperia Z Ultra in a Wi-Fi only version may be coming.

The Sony Xperia Z Ultra has a lot to recommend it, and a device with model number Sony TS-0010 has now made an appearance at the FCC that looks to be closely related to it. The TS-0010 is listed as a “portable UMPC mini-tablet” AND a “portable handset” but the filing shows it does NOT have cellular radios.

Connectivity features that are evident are Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and NFC and the proportions tie in very nicely with the dimensions of the Xperia Z Ultra.

Phone Arena has done the deduction here and come up with the idea that the TS-0010 could be either a downgraded model of the Xperia Z Ultra, or could be exactly the same but without cellular connectivity.

There’s no more news yet on specs or release but we’ll be keeping an eye on the Sony TS-0010 and will let readers know when we hear more. It’s certainly an interesting proposition and we’d like to know what you think.
