Many people have been impressed by the Apple iPad Air that arrived back in November. However, Samsung has recently announced new Galaxy Pro tablets, two of which are the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2. Today we want to compare the specs of the iPad Air vs. Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 and Tab Pro 12.2.
If you’re about to purchase a new tablet then you may want to consider one of the above. Of course if you have a preference for iOS over Android devices or vice versa your decision may well be made by the fact that the iPad Air runs iOS while the two Samsung tablets are Android.
The iPad Air has a 9.7-inch display and the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 and Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 both unsurprisingly have larger 12.2-inch displays. All three are advanced and impressive tablets and the two Samsung devices are due to release in Q1, so they could appear in just a matter of weeks. Let’s take a look at the key specs of each.
Processors
The iPad Air has a 1.4GHz A7 dual-core processor with 64-bit architecture and PowerVR G6430 graphics. Both the Galaxy Note Pro and Tab Pro 12.2 have 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 quad-core processors with Adreno 330 graphics.
Display
The iPad Air has a 9.7-inch IPS LCD display with resolution of 2048 x 1536 and 264 ppi. The Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 and Tab Pro 12.2 both have 12.2-inch Super Clear LCD displays with resolution of 2560 x 1600 and 247 ppi.
RAM and Storage
The iPad Air has 1GB of RAM and from 16GB of internal storage through to 128GB. The two Samsung tablets both have 3GB of RAM and from 32GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD to 64GB.
Camera Set-up
There’s a 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, HDR and 1080p video capture with video stabilization, as well as a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera for the iPad Air. Both of the Samsung tablets have 8-megapixel rear cameras with autofocus, LED flash and 1080p video recording and 2-megapixel front-facing cameras.
Battery
The iPad Air has an 8820 mAh battery while the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 and Tab Pro 12.2 both have a 9500 mAh battery.
Operating System
The iPad Air runs iOS 7.0.4 and both of the Galaxy Pro 12.2 tablets will be running Android 4.4 KitKat.
Obviously the above is a look at the basic specs and doesn’t take into account the many features of all of these tablets or design aspects. We should point out that the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 also has the advantage of an S Pen stylus. This should give a good general idea of what each has to offer though.
Are you considering purchasing any of these three tablets? Were you about to buy the MacBook Air before you heard of the new Galaxy Pro tablets being officially introduced? Which is your preference, the MacBook Air, Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 or the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2?
